| THE BASIS OF THE CHURCH is the Bible, the Word of God, uniquely inspired and authoritative. The Holy Scriptures are interpreted by the Holy Spirit and for their understanding, therefore, they require of us first of all, not a critical faculty of the mind, but a spiritual harmony with the Author. Their divine authorship and authority place them beyond the competence of finite man's trial, criticism and judgement. This fundamental emphasis on the Holy Scriptures as the basis of fellow-ship gives clarity to our doctrine, substance to our character, and direction to our conduct. |
